Project Cyber partners with the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles during Cybersecurity Awareness Month to introduce nearly 60 Girl Scouts to the exciting world of cybersecurity, helping them earn their Cybersecurity Investigators badge!
As Cybersecurity Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible time we had partnering with the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles this year for a fun and educational day of cybersecurity! We introduced nearly 60 Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors (K-5th grade) to the exciting world of cybersecurity, helping them earn their Investigators badge.
Since launching their Cybersecurity badge program in 2017, Girl Scouts have offered multiple badges that introduce girls at various levels to core cybersecurity concepts - from basic internet safety and digital privacy to protecting information online and recognizing cyber threats.
In our workshops, we explored topics such as keeping personal information private, recognizing phishing attempts, coding secret messages (cryptography), and understanding how computer viruses spread, similar to how biological viruses can spread from person to person.
The girls were engaged and curious, leaving the workshop feeling empowered and eager to share their new knowledge with friends and family. It was inspiring to see their excitement, and we look forward to partnering with the Los Angeles Council for more workshops. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this day so memorable!
